President’s Message:

The frigid, snowy month of January is now in the past. As we look through our 2014 catalogs we can soon count on the spring season approaching.

First, I would like to thank Gary Adams of Pleasant Valley Glads & Dahlias for attending our January meeting. Gary is not only a commercial grower, but a long time member of the CDS. He has always been generous in donating to our Root Sale. We have found a need to purchase tubers for our Root Sale this year so we will be purchasing numerous varieties from him. He has also given us valuable advice on who are the better commercial growers that they should consider when buying their new stock.

Our educational programs given by Marge Schnerr have proven to be very successful. Marge has instructed in both classification and forms and which ones are the best quality varieties for the new grower to buy. Our new growers should be able to judge their success by comparing these varieties against our skilled growers who routinely grow only the top winners. Attendance by our older growers at these programs has proven that they are an asset through offering their knowledge on the topics and it has been found that many of them can go home with new tips as well.

I hope to see more activity by our membership in this coming dahlia season. Remember, sharing the Dahlia will also keep our society growing.

To determine if there will be a cancellation of the meeting, call either Marge or Donna. We will decide by 11:00 am on that day if we will cancel or not.

2015 Meeting Dates:

(All Meetings are at the Thomaston Bank unless otherwise noted). The programs for new members are open to any members who are interested.

2014 Dues Renewal Form:

Our website is now in the processing of being updated. The photos that were taken by Marilyn Lonergan of our 2013 Show winners are now on the site for viewing.
