President’s Message:

Too much rain! No rain! Will it ever be just right? It seems like every dahlia season is a new challenge. However, the Dahlia always performs well by show time. Hopefully, we all have been topping and tying and possibly spraying and most of all feeding these precious gems.

First, it is very important for members to join us at this business meeting. Mid-Island is hosting the American Dahlia Society 100th requesting for CDS to donate a sizeable monetary contribution to help them in hosting this show. Since this society belongs to the members, it is important to give our members a vote on the amount to be donated Please try to attend.

Also, CDS is holding our Annual Picnic on Sunday, August 10, at Elizabeth Park. The time will be discussed at our Sunday meeting. The Society will provide meats, rolls, and beverages. Members are requested to bring other picnic foods and desserts. Also, bring your own chairs and tables and if you have portable coverings for protection from sun or rain they will be useful.

We are also planning to do a Trial Garden class at the Picnic since our CT Dahlia Display Gardens are at the park. It will be a new experience for members who have never scored dahlias at a trial garden before.

Again, please try to attend this meeting. People are busy this time of year but try to find time to participate. We need to have a group effort to keep CDS and our fabulous Show successful.
