President’s Message:
We will soon begin our show season. Weather has been a good friend to us and our shows should have many good blooms. Our Show Schedule is now on our website so please check it out here.
Our August 9th Picnic is near. It is a great afternoon event and this year we are going to Steve Ruttkamp’s home and he says that he will have his dahlias in bloom for us. The meats and beverages will be provided by the CDS and members are asked to bring either an appetizer, salad or dessert. Please respond to Marge by August 5th so that she can let Steve know the attendance so that he can plan ahead.
Also at the Picnic, Nick will be holding a Raffle. We will have our usual Gift Cards but it will be nice to have other items donated by members so please bring at least one item to donate. The more items, the more fun it will be.
Marge will be conducting our Judge’s Refresher and it will be on the judging of the Open-centered varieties. We are asking members to bring along whatever open centered blooms that you may have in these classes, regardless of quality. It will be a great learning experience.
If you are planning to attend the ADS Centennial Show, please send your reservations in by August 1st.

Driving Directions to the Picnic:
From I-84 driving west, take RT-7 south from Danbury to RT-35 through Ridgefield.

From the Merritt take Exit 38 to RT-123, Steve is 6 miles from there. From I-95 take Exit 15 onto the RT-7 connector to the Merritt Pkwy South, go one exit, to exit 15 then onto RT-123.
Judge’s Refresher:
Open-centered dahlia varieties will be the program for this Refresher. Before attending the Picnic, I ask all of our judges to view the 2nd Judging video on the ADS website to obtain a good understanding of the judging characteristics of these varieties. If you need help to view this presentation, please email me. Please bring all OCD’s that you may have, regardless of their quality, to stage for our evaluation, vases will be available.
