President’s Message:

A very mild winter so far must have all of you thinking of having an early spring?  We hope that that will be true as last year we had a difficult winter with a lot of snow. It will not be long before you should start looking over your roots to check how they have stored and if you are able to find an excess of different varieties, to put them aside for our Root Sale on April 24th.

At this March meeting we will go over the plans for our Root Sale. We will have all roots labeled before they arrive at the sale so this should allow us to have a fast and orderly set-up by our Root Sale Committee.

Recently, I picked up the Historical Materials from Ruth Kurtz that had been maintained by her late husband, Mickey, who had served as our Historian.  It is exciting for me to find that there are Kodachrome slides from the start of our society in the late 1950’s and sixties that might be of interest to many of you.  I have never seen them before and it will be fun trying

to decide the names of many of the varieties that were big winners back then and also to see the different locations where our shows were held. So I plan to show some of them at the end of our business meeting.  At our May meeting I will bring our many historic albums for viewing.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the meeting.

Marge Schnerr
