President’s Message:

It is now mid June and most of your dahlias should be coming up by now so things to consider now are: topping, spraying and when to fertilize them again. We have a very early show this year on August 23rd get those early blooms.

Our 1:00 pm programs are attended by our experienced growers in more of a “round table format” so that you get to hear suggestions from all of our professional exhibitors and you should not be afraid to ask for their help with your growing. It is unfortunate to hear someone come to our Root Sale and say that their dahlias did not do well in the past year. Unfortunately this statement usually comes from members who never attend our meetings to learn how to grow, so if you are some of these members that we only see at the Root Sale each year, why not come to our meetings, I guarantee that you will get some helpful information for your growing.

At this time of year we are considering what to do for a Picnic on August 10th like to offer your home to host it, that would be great. We like to move our Picnics around so that we get to see different gardens at new locations that may be shorter distances for some of our members to attend.

Discussion of our August show will also be on the agenda at this meeting and if you have never helped with it, consider offering to be a volunteer for some of the necessary jobs which start on the Friday before the show.

Please consider attending some of these other NADC society shows. In order for everyone to have a successful show, the participation of members from other societies bringing their blooms is necessary.

2015 Meeting Dates:

(All Meetings are at the Thomaston Bank unless otherwise noted). The programs for new members are open to any members who are interested.
